Hannover got back to winning ways at the Niedersachsenstadion with a 2-0 win over Augsburg, who have now lost two in a row.

Salif Sane celebrated his return to the Hannover team with the opening goal before Joselu converted a controversial penalty to make it two and secure victory.

Augsburg tried to respond, but could do nothing to avert a second straight defeat and saw their advantage over their hosts reduced to a single point.

Sane gave Hannover the lead when he, without knowing, diverted a Hiroshi Kiyotake corner into the far corner after Lars Stindl helped the ball on at the near post.

The ball struck the back of the Hannover defender's head, but he was happy to mark his first start of the season with a goal.

Hannover continued to set the tone of the game with Kiyotake leading the Augsburg defence a merry dance down the wing, but it was not until early in the second half that they were able to relax a little after scoring a second goal.

Daniel Baier was adjudged to have brought down Lars Stindl inside the penalty area and Joselu stepped up to find the bottom right-hand corner from the spot.

Hannover were unfortunate to see a third goal ruled out when Kiyotake was adjudged to have been in an offside position before he found the far corner with his shot.

It was a let-off for Augsburg, who tried to make the most of it with Halil Altintop twice and Raul Bobadilla testing Ron-Robert Zieler.

There was not to be a way back into the game, though, with the penalty taking the stuffing out of Augsburg, who fell to defeat for the second time in three days.
