Marseille returned to the top of the Ligue 1 standings thanks to a 3-1 victory over Bordeaux on Sunday.

Paris St Germain had gone top on Friday with a 3-2 away win at Metz, but goals from Mario Lemina, Andre-Pierre Gignac and Michy Batshuayi gave OM the victory after Bordeaux had gone ahead through Thomas Toure in the 54th minute.

The result put Marseille one point clear of PSG at the top with Bordeaux slipping to fifth.

Bordeaux had the first real chance of the match when Jaroslav Plasil put Toure through down the left, who beat Rod Fanni to burst into the area where he got a shot on target.

OM keeper Steve Mandanda denied the chance before opposite number Cedric Carrasso was called upon to make a save at the other end to keep out Dimitri Payet's low shot in the 10th minute.

Bordeaux had another chance saved by Mandanda when Gregory Sertic sent a free-kick into the goalmouth, where Nicolas Pallois rose high for a header.

Carrasso made two more blocks before the end of the half and denied Gignac's volley and Lemina's strike early in the second period.

Baptiste Aloe then saw his header from Gilbert Imbula's corner hit the crossbar as Marseille started to really crank up the pressure.

However, it was Bordeaux who broke the deadlock when Benjamin Mendy was dispossessed by Nicolas-Maurice Belay, who passed to Sertic who in turn linked up with Toure, with his close range shot beating Mandanda.

Marseille hit back six minutes later when Payet sent in a perfect cross which allowed Lemina to head the ball past Carrasso.

Gignac then gave OM the lead for the first time in the game with five minutes remaining when he headed in from a Payet corner.

Batshuayi added the gloss with the third goal in the 89th minute from close range and on the rebound after Carrasso parried Imbula's 20-yard strike.
