Paris St Germain maintained their edge over Barcelona at the top of Champions League Group F with a comfortable 3-1 win over Ajax at the Parc des Princes.

Edinson Cavani opened and completed the scoring with Davy Klaassen making things interesting midway through the second half, cancelling out the Uruguayan's opener before Zlatan Ibrahimovic restored PSG's lead.

With Barcelona also victorious in Cyprus, the winners of the section will now be decided in a head-to-head in Spain in the final round of matches, when Ajax need to avoid defeat at home to APOEL to secure third.

Although they could not catch either their opponents or Barca, the stakes were still high for Ajax, who are in contention for a place in the Europa League.

Their hopes of staying ahead of APOEL in that battle for third suffered a setback in the 10th minute when Nicolai Boilesen was forced off injured after being caught just below his knee by a rogue Gregory van der Wiel leg.

Coach Frank De Boer was forced to change things around and PSG soon took advantage of their disorganisation at the back with Zlatan Ibrahimovic putting Ezequiel Lavezzi through on goal, but Jasper Cillessen blocked his effort.

PSG's deady attacking triangle then combined to put the Ligue 1 champions in front with Ibrahimovic putting Lavezzi through, and he selflessly squared for Cavani to dispatch the ball into the open goal.

Laurent Blanc's men then seemed to take things a little too easy, and they were punished midway through the second half when Klaassen levelled with Ajax's first shot on goal.

He met Ricardo Krishna's cross with an unstoppable header into the bottom left-hand corner.

With Barcelona running away with their game in Limassol, PSG knew a draw would see them relinquish top spot and so up stepped Ibrahimovic.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's second half strike was one of the goals of the night

Nothing seemed to be on for the Swede, but that can never really be said when Ibrahimovic has the ball.

He received the ball on his chest with his back to goal and, before the nearest defender could sense the danger, he had turned and volleyed beyond Cillessen into the far corner.

A dreadful backpass from Niki Zimling was cut out by Cavani, who danced past Cillessen to slot in PSG's third as the heavens opened above the French capital.

The Parisians were enjoying the rain, though, having got the result they needed to remain ahead of Barca ahead of the group decider at the Nou Camp on 10 December.
