A late Juanito Gomez goal denied Cesena what would have been an important victory at the Stadio Dino Manuzzi.

Gregoire Defrel had given Cesena the lead midway through the first half, but their attempts to hold onto victory were thwarted when Gomez struck for Hellas Verona 13 minutes from time.

He thus denied Cesena a win which would have taken them out of the bottom three, where instead they remain after 10 games of the season as a result of this 1-1 draw.

With Cesena needing the points with more urgency than Hellas, who already had 12 in the bank, it was unsurprising that the Emilia-Romagna club took the initiative.

Hellas restricted themselves to simple administration, ensuring Cesena did not get too close to their goal, although they were successfully only to a certain extent.

Already after a handful of minutes, Giuseppe De Feudis sent his shot over the crossbar from a good position.

Midway through the half, Pierpaolo Bisoli's men took the lead they were looking for.

Hugo Almeida touched a long ball down for Defrel, who needed no further invitation to beat Rafael.

Nene had the chance to level 10 minutes later, but he could not find the target with Cesena goalkeeper Francesco Agliardi untroubled, apart from a Nico Lopez shot when the offside flag was already raised.

He had more work to do in the second half, though, when Hellas started to play their part.

Nene managed found only Agliardi with his next header, from Panagiotis Tachtsidis' free-kick, and it was the Greek midfielder who sent in the next effort as Cesena started to pack men in behind the ball to defend the result.

Hellas' hopes of finding an equaliser were dealt a blow when, after all three substitutions had already been made, Frederik Sorensen had to leave the field injured.

But despite playing with 10 men, they found an equaliser in the 77th minute when Gomez looped a header over Agliardi, who had strayed a little too far off his goal.

Cesena still had a chance to win it, but substitute Milan Djuric headed straight at Rafael.
