Real Sociedad signed off from their Primera Division season on a high after beating Rayo Vallecano 4-2 in a dramatic game at the Estadio de Vallecas.

David Moyes' side took the lead after 20 minutes through Carlos Vela and just moments later Chory Castro scored to double their advantage, although Alberto Bueno pulled a goal back for the hosts before the break.

Jorge Morcillo completed Rayo's comeback in the second half, only for substitutes Imanol Agirretxe and Gorka Elustondo to restore Real Sociedad's lead with two late goals.

The Basques knew they would not be able to improve on 12th place whatever happened here, while Rayo could only qualify for Europe hypothetically as they had to make up a difference of 17 goals with Athletic Bilbao.

Paco Jemez's side finish the season in 11th place, with 49 points. Although little was riding on the game, both sides still managed to produce an exciting encounter.

Bueno came within inches of giving Rayo the lead after 10 minutes as his header from Roberto Trashorras' corner came crashing off the bar.

Sergio Canales went for goal at the other end with a drilled effort towards the near post, but Rayo goalkeeper Tono was able to punch the ball away. Just a minute later, Canales set up the opener.

Esteban Granero caught Mohammed Fatau unaware in Rayo's half to intercept and give it Canales, who squared it first time to Vela, who took a couple of touches before picking his spot and sending the ball past Tono.

Moyes' side doubled their lead less than two minutes later when Ruben Pardo lofted the ball into the box and Castro caught it on the volley to power it into the net.

Adrian Embarba also hit the bar for Rayo as Jemez's side tried to find a way back into the game, and they did so three minutes before the break, Bueno turning Embarba's low cross in at the near post.

Morcillo headed in the equaliser after 64 minutes, arriving at the far post to nod the ball home from a corner, but Rayo's hard work at getting back into the game was undone nine minutes later by some slack defending.

Morcillo and Nacho were caught out of position down the right-hand side, allowing Agirretxe to race on to a through ball unmarked and shoot into the far corner.

Just as they had in the first half, Real Sociedad scored another goal immediately after, Elustondo smashing the ball into the top left-hand corner from the edge of the area to seal the points for Moyes' side, and wrap up only their second away victory of the season.
