Primera Division: Granada's turnaround goes on with defeat of Real Sociedad

Granada's incredible turnaround under Jose Ramon Sandoval continues as they beat Real Sociedad 3-0 to move out of the Primera Division relegation zone.

Youssef El Arabi broke the deadlock at Anoeta in the 73rd minute from a quick counter and Robert Ibanez appeared to wrap up the victory four minutes later.

However, there was still time for Ruben Rochina to score a spectacular third goal from just beyond the halfway line, inflicting the heaviest home defeat of the season on David Moyes' side.

Granada have enjoyed a new lease of life under Sandoval, beating Getafe in his first game in charge and then overcoming Cordoba last week, winning back-to-back matches for the first time this season.

Before this game the coach had promised his side "would not commit suicide" at Anoeta, but his side dominated the first half.

Lass Bangoura came close to scoring early on with an enterprising effort from range, while Rochina failed to take either of two good chances.

The hosts were passive for most of the half, with their only opening a tame effort from Chory Castro.

Moyes' side improved after the break and could have taken the lead on the hour mark, but Sergio Canales could only shoot straight at Granada goalkeeper Roberto.

Then La Real defender Carlos Martinez came the closest to scoring, his deep cross evading his team-mates and striking the far post.

Granada took the lead barely two minutes later. Rochina broke free down the left-hand side on the break to cut the ball back for El Arabi to score, and then Ibanez tried his luck from outside the area, his shot deflecting off Alberto de La Bella and over Enaut Zubikarai into the Sociedad net.

But it would not be the last time Zubikarai was lobbed. With three minutes remaining, Rochina spotted the goalkeeper off his line and let fly from 45 yards, compounding the home side's misery.

Despite their heroics, Granada's work is not done just yet.

They are two points clear of the drop zone and need to beat Atletico Madrid at home next Saturday to be assured of survival, yet they could still stay up regardless if Eibar and Almeria fail to win their matches.
