Barcelona were at their brilliant destructive best on Tuesday night as they romped to a 6-0 win over Getafe.

Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi both scored twice with Neymar also finding the net and Xavi rolling back the years with a virtuoso performance and impressive strike.

The result takes Barca five points clear at the top of the Primera Division ahead of closest rivals Real Madrid's clash against Alermia on Wednesday.

Barca had the lead after just eight minutes as Alvaro Arroyo brought down Suarez just inside the box and Messi scored with an audacious chip that would have drifted into Vicente Guaita's arms had the goalkeeper not dived.

Lionel Messi grabbed his 48th goal of the season as he cheekily chipped Getafe's Vicente Guaita from the penalty spot.

Rafinha than headed over the bar before Getafe had a chance to level when Fredy took advantage of a mix-up between Claudio Bravo and Marc Bartra - but the goalkeeper got back to clear his lob off the line.

Getafe were holding their own but Suarez's strike in the 25th minute was the first of three goals in five minutes for the Catalans as the floodgates opened.

Messi gathered the ball on the right and supplied the cross for Suarez to get in front of his man and acrobatically volley home on his right foot.

Three minutes later, it was 3-0, as Emiliano Velazquez lost possession and Suarez pounced, spreading the ball to Neymar who cut inside and fired home.

Neymar was involved in the fourth on the half-hour but this time it was Xavi on target, exchanging passes with the Brazilian to create space and despatching a curling effort from outside the box into the top corner past Guaita.

That five-minute spell had killed the game as a contest but Barcelona did not take their foot off the gas and five minutes before the break, Suarez had his second.

Messi and Neymar exchanged passes and the Argentinian's final ball was flicked by Xavi into the path of Suarez, who curled home.

It took Barca less than two minutes to find the net again in the second half, a slick moved ended with Neymar lofting the ball to Messi and he took a few steps into the box before curling a shot over the keeper and into the top far corner.

After scoring a sublimely chipped penalty earlier in the game, Lionel Messi went on to give the fans another treat by curling the ball past the keeper

Getafe were struggling to get a sniff of the ball and the home side looked quite happy to pass around them as the urgency dropped in the second period.

Barca were still having the best of the chances, though, and Suarez could have had his hat-trick when Neymar's rebound fell to him eight yards out but the Uruguayan fired over the bar.

Suarez had further chances to make it seven as he fluffed his lines after a slaloming Messi run and fired tamely at Guaita when in space.

Fredy then hit the post with Getafe's best chance of the night before Guaita made a smart save from a Messi free-kick to keep it at six.
