Two quick-fire goals from Michel Macedo saw Almeria come from behind to win a relegation six-pointer at Cordoba 2-1.

Fede Cartabia's free-kick had given the hosts the lead after 10 minutes but defender Macedo equalised just after the hour mark and four minutes later combined again with Arsenal loanee Welington Silva to head in the winner.

Almeria have now won back-to-back games and move further away from the relegation zone and on to 22 points, sending Cordoba back into the bottom three.

Juan Ignacio Martinez's side were without top scorer Tomer Hemed through suspension but welcomed Thievy Bifouma back from the African Nations Cup.

The Congo international was lively from the off and nearly created the opening goal after five minutes when he laid the ball on for Silva to shoot on the edge of the area, but the Brazilian's shot flew wide of the far post.

But despite this bright start from the visitors, it was the hosts that took the lead, when Cartabia curled a free-kick in off the near post with his left foot.

Cordoba could have scored again 10 minutes later as the Argentinian swung in a corner and Jose Angel Crespo's header came crashing off the bar, and later in the half Almeria goalkeeper Julian Cuesta kept out a header from Florin Andone.

The visitors somehow survived a wave of Cordoba attacks and made it to the break just a goal down.

They came out much stronger in the second half and thought they had equalised immediately after the re-start, but Fernando Soriano's goal was correctly ruled offside.

Cuesta had to make two good saves from Nabil Ghilas and Florin respectively, but then Almeria drew level.

Silva marauded forward and delivered a fine ball to Macedo on the right-hand side of the area, and the full-back took one touch before slamming the ball high into the net.

The goal was a sucker punch to Cordoba, who soon found themselves behind. Silva took a short corner with Corona and then crossed to the far post, again finding his compatriot Macedo, who nodded home from close range.

It was then down to Cordoba to strike back, but they could only manage distance efforts and half-hearted appeals for a late penalty, and Almeria held on to claim a vital victory.
