Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund at foot of table after goalless draw with Bayer Leverkusen

Borussia Dortmund were left rock bottom of the Bundesliga on Saturday evening after a goalless draw at Bayer Leverkusen.

With coach Jurgen Klopp making no secret of how difficult the next four months are going to be for him and his side on the eve of the game, Saturday's other Bundesliga results hammered home that concept with Leverkusen confirming at the BayArena that Dortmund are not going to get any favours.

The hosts would have won the game on points, but Dortmund showed the battling qualities they are going to need between now and May to pick up what could prove to be a crucial point when they are all added up in four months' time.

It was a high-octane start to the game with Leverkusen making good use of the four attack-minded players - Hakan Calhanoglu, Karim Bellarabi, Josip Drmic and Stefan Kiessling - fielded by their coach Roger Schmidt.

At the other end, Ciro Immobile was looking particularly lively for Dortmund who, given results earlier on Saturday, came into the game two points adrift at the bottom of the table.

The first real danger came from the visitors when the fit-again Marco Reus curled in a free-kick which Wendell turned just past the near post.

Bellarabi was Leverkusen's most dangerous outlet, keeping both Marcel Schmelzer and Sokratis Papastathopoulos particularly busy, and even though they frequently doubled up on him, he still managed to beat them more often than not.

In the 39th minute the Germany international got in down the right and pulled a ball back for Gonzalo Castro, whose shot was headed off the line by Mats Hummels

Immobile went close early in the second half, bringing a fine save out of Bernd Leno at his near post, but Leverkusen continued to preserve most of the possession, going close to taking the lead 15 minutes from time when Simon Rolfes sent Gonzalo Castro through.

There was no defender covering on the line this time, but none was required either as Castro lobbed his shot over Roman Weidenfeller and the crossbar.

It was another let-off for Dortmund, who realise now if they did not before how tough a task they have on their hands surviving this season.
