Ivica Olic salvaged Wolfsburg a point in Hoffenheim and earned his coach Dieter Hecking some breathing room ahead of their return to Europe next week.

Anthony Modeste gave Hoffenheim the lead early in the second half with Olic levelling in the last minute of the game.

The Wolves ended the game with only 10 men with Josuha Guilavogui booked twice in less than 10 minutes, although the hosts also played the final minute of stoppage time with 10 men as Ermin Bicakcic limped off injured with all substitutes used.

Sejad Salihovic was given his first start of the season and he seemed keen to make the most of his opportunity, sending in the first shot of the game which Diego Benaglio pushed away.

At the other end, Olic wasted Wolfsburg's first chance, his first touch letting him down and giving him a tight angle which he was unable to master.

Hoffenheim took the lead in the 55th minute when Andreas Beck lifted the ball into the path of Modeste, who stuck out his leg and managed to get just enough on the ball to touch it past Benaglio.

Sebastian Rudy then tested Benaglio straight after as Hoffenheim looked for a second.

Kevin De Bruyne wasted an even better chance to open his account for the season at the other end, lifting his shot over the crossbar after being set up excellently by Olic.

It seemed like the ball just didn't want to go in for Hecking's men until Olic steppd up in the last minute and, a day before his 35th birthday, flicked Daniel Caligiuri's cross into the far corner from the near post.

Five minutes of stoppage time were given and that was enough for Guilavogui to earn a second yellow card, leaving Wolfsburg with 10 men.

Both teams then seemed happy enough to settle for the draw, which earns Wolfsburg only their second point of the season ahead of their trip to Everton in the Europa League on Thursday.
