Rangers manager Stuart McCall says defender Richard Foster may need surgery

New Rangers boss Stuart McCall has revealed defender Richard Foster will miss Saturday’s game with Livingston at Ibrox in the Scottish Championship.

McCall says the former Aberdeen man could be set for an extended break after confirming he may need hernia surgery.

But he hopes to have Cammy Bell back in action soon after the goalkeeper survived Thursday's U20 match with Ross County without aggravating his shoulder injury.

McCall added: "I have 20 or 21 players fit and available to me which is great.

“At Motherwell we sometimes struggled to get 14 players fit at times, so in that regard we are fine."

However, Shane Ferguson - one of the 'Newecastle Five' - remains sidelined with a knee problem and unlikely to figure in the short term.

McCall, who took charge of the side on a deal until the end of the season on Thursday, said: "Shane is out with a long- term knee injury and I don't think that he's even been across the border and up to Scotland.

Fellow-Newcastle loanees Kevin Mbabu, Gael Bigirimana and Remie Streete also remain on the sidelines along with defender Sebastien Faure.
