Inverness 1-1 Dundee: Graeme Shinnie rescues a point for Caley

Inverness Caledonian Thistle kept up their chase for a Europa League place as they came from behind to earn a 1-1 with Dundee at the Caledonian Stadium.

Third-placed Inverness, without a win in their last four Scottish Premiership outings, fought back to secure a point as Graeme Shinnie's goal cancelled out Paul McGowan's 53rd-minute strike.

The hosts had the better of a drab first half in the Highlands but were unable to find a way past Dundee goalkeeper Scott Bain.

Greg Tansey fired a long-range free-kick straight at Bain and the 'keeper then had to be at his best to push a shot from Irishman Aaron Doran around the post.

Tansey continued to pull the strings and he set up Marley Watkins with a free-kick into the box, but the Londoner was unable to hit the target as his header went wide.

After a dull first 45 minutes the game finally came to life after the break with two goals in quick succession.

McGowan opened the scoring with the first chance of the game for the visitors when the midfielder drilled the ball in from the edge of the box in the 53rd minute.

Dundee's lead lasted just two minutes as Caley hit straight back through captain Shinnie who smashed in a low strike that beat Bain and flew into the bottom corner of the net.

Thomas Konrad then headed wide for Dundee before Doran fired narrowly wide from a tight angle.

Substitute Edward Ofere had a golden chance to win the game for Inverness late on, when Tansey's pass was flicked on by Watkins but Ofere clipped his effort wide with Bain beaten.

Ofere was involved again shortly afterwards, planting a header into the ground from David Raven's cross - but the game ended 1-1.

Ross County's 2-1 win over Dundee United at Tannadice means Caley now have an eight-point lead over Jackie McNamara's fourth-placed side.
