Grimes goal drought continues

Image: Ashley Grimes: Still struggling

Ashley Grimes' rotten luck in front of goal continued as Walsall's 0-0 draw at Gillingham left them with one win from nine matches.

Grimes, without a goal since April 2013, volleyed straight at on-loan Gills goalkeeper Stephen Bywater early on after good play from James Baxendale. The 27-year-old then flicked a shot at Bywater when any contact on Anthony Forde's teasing cross looked like it would result in a goal for the Saddlers. The visitors, who have not won away since a 2-0 defeat of Bradford on March 25, should have broken the deadlock 11 minutes from time when the on-rushing Baxendale headed wide from another Forde delivery. Joint-leading scorer Cody McDonald went closest for the Gills, who remain unbeaten in the league at Priestfield this season. The former Norwich striker had an effort blocked by Andy Butler and then shot narrowly wide shortly before the hour-mark having been played through by captain Doug Loft. John Egan's header was deflected wide and winger Jermaine McGlashan threatened with a cross-turned-shot.
