Two well-drilled defences took all the honours at Ashton Gate as Bristol City and Leyton Orient fought out a goalless draw.

Orient had the clearer chances and Frank Fielding had to make diving saves to keep out two long-range efforts from Lloyd James in the second half. City forced a string oF late corners and substitute Luke Freeman had a shot deflected over, but the visitors were well worth their point. Despite a positive approach from both teams, an open first half featured few chances. The best two fell to Orient substitute Darius Henderson, introduced on 22 minutes for the injured Kevin Lisbie, but on both occasions he shot too close to Fielding. City skipper Sam Baldock had the ball in the net on 37 minutes, but referee Simon Hooper spotted an infringement as a corner was swung over from the left. It was the one moment of controversy in a game that suggested both clubs will be challenging for promotion this season.
