Sky Bet Championship: Blackpool capitalise on late error to draw with Rotherham

A late howler from Rotherham goalkeeper Adam Collin earned Blackpool a 1-1 draw at the New York Stadium.

Substitutes Jordan Bowery and Steve Davies scored late goals to ensure the points were shared between the two Sky Bet Championship strugglers.

Rotherham fielded all three of their new loan signings and it was full-back Reece James, borrowed from Manchester United on Thursday, who helped create the game's first chance.

James linked well with Ben Pringle, who sent in a dangerous cross that Blackpool captain Peter Clarke almost diverted into his own goal.

Another loanee, Emmanuel Ledesma - one of seven Rotherham changes from their defeat to Birmingham last week - then fired in a shot that Matt Derbyshire narrowly failed to connect with.

Tom Lawrence then forced Joe Lewis into a smart save before bottom side Blackpool created a chance of their own only for Collin to keep out Nile Ranger's header.

Rotherham's good start to the game faded and, while Ranger might have done better with his header after being picked out by Tom Kennedy, the half finished goalless.

Chris Eagles had the first effort on goal in the second period and his bouncing shot from the edge of the box had to be gathered at the second attempt by Collin.

Rotherham should then have capitalised from slack Blackpool marking from Ledesma's freekick. A failed attempt to force an offside flag left a queue of men free including Paul Green who could not quite glance the ball goalwards.

Bowery was brought on in search of a Rotherham winner, replacing the impressive Lawrence, and he looked to have found it on 78 minutes, making space for himself down the left before cutting inside and shooting past Lewis.

But the lead was surrendered in the 85th minute when Collin's attempt at a routine clearance failed spectacularly and left Davies with the simple task of tapping the ball into an empty goal.
