Jordan Rhodes missed a penalty as Blackburn failed to make their dominance count as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Huddersfield at Ewood Park.

Quite how no goals were scored is a mystery, but no chance was better than around the hour mark when Rhodes placed his spot-kick wide on his 100th league appearance for Blackburn.

The hosts peppered Huddersfield's goal, especially in the second half, but Alex Smithies saved well from Rhodes and Lee Williamson in particular, while the visitors could have snatched the points late on as Nahki Wells headed over with the goal gaping.

The result continued Town's upturn in form - Chris Powell's side have lost one in their last five. Rovers meanwhile, have won just once in that time.

Blackburn welcomed back Tom Cairney, with Corry Evans and Rudy Gestede missing out through suspension and injury respectively.

Wells was recalled by Huddersfield for the injured Jonathan Hogg in the only change from Wednesday's 3-1 win at Wolves.

In a quiet opening, the visitors almost went ahead after Jack Robinson surged down the wing and found Wells, whose effort was deflected behind.

Rovers went close after 27 minutes when Joshua King set up Cairney on the counter, but he dragged wide.

Although not dominating, Rovers had two chances before the break, but King nodded over when well placed and Grant Hanley's stooping header was just off target.

In keeping with the first-half pattern, a cross in the box should have produced a Blackburn opener as Ben Marshall marched forward into the area and lifted a lovely ball towards King at the back post, but his header grazed the crossbar and went over.

And they were given an even better chance to score on the hour mark as Grant Holt handled in the area.

But Rhodes put his penalty wide of the left post.

The home side were well in the ascendancy and, after Rhodes forced Smithies into a save, the ball fell towards King but Mark Hudson blocked the open goal and the goalkeeper recovered.

Smithies then produced a wonderful save after 67 minutes to parry Lee Williamson's rasping drive from 15 yards and Conway had the goalkeeper scrambling with a piledriver of his own that went wide.

King had a glorious chance after 76 minutes as Cairney found him 12 yards out but Smithies was there again to direct his low shot into the side-netting.

Huddersfield's forays forward were rare but they almost snatched the lead when Steele fumbled Harry Bunn's 25-yard drive but recovered to thwart Wells and the ball was cleared.

And they missed an even better chance with eight minutes remaining as Bunn's wicked cross found Wells six yards out but he headed over.

Neither side could force a winner but it capped a fine week for Huddersfield, who made it four points from two away games.
