Daryl Murphy: Scored an excellent goal

Jonathan Parr's first goal in more than two and a half years and a stunning effort from Daryl Murphy gave Ipswich their second 2-0 home win in four days.

Brighton went the same way as Millwall on Saturday after an entertaining game was deservedly won by the Tractor Boys, who moved into the top 10 in the Sky Bet Championship thanks to back-to-back wins.

Parr broke the deadlock in the 79th minute after firing home a rebound when Jay Tabb's shot was well blocked by David Stockdale, who could not come close to Murphy's audacious first-time shot from an acute angle with two minutes remaining.

The first chance of note came in the 16th minute when a raking crossfield pass from Teddy Bishop found Tyrone Mings.

The initial pass was matched by the cross met by Paul Anderson but his header just evaded the back post.

Anderson again went close in an almost carbon-copy move shortly before the 20th minute mark, while at the other end, Danny Holla's low shot on a wet surface had Dean Gerken sprawling to his left.

The deadlock was almost broken in the 26th minute when David McGoldrick released strike partner Murphy but the Ipswich frontman could only clip the top of the crossbar when clean through.

It was then Brighton's turn to go close to grabbing the first goal when Kazenga LuaLua burst clear down the left and his neat lay-off was met by Sam Baldock, whose low 20-yard shot was superbly tipped away by Gerken.

Gerken was again called on to display fantastic reflexes six minutes after the restart when Lewis Dunk powerfully met Holla's corner but he could find no way past the Ipswich keeper.

The game was getting stretched and Gerken pushed away a powerful drive from Lualua in the 55th minute.

Anderson fired a 20-yard volley wide after latching on to a mistake from Jake Forster-Caskey before Mings went agonisingly close to opening the scoring with 62 on the clock.

McGoldrick's low cross was flicked goalwards by the heel of the left-back but it brought out the best in Stockdale who flung himself to divert the ball over the bar.

Stockdale again denied Mings, this time at his near post, before the deadlock was finally broken 11 minutes from time.

Great work down the left by substitute Alex Henshall and Mings led to Tabb's shot being smothered by Stockdale, but Parr was on hand to bundle home the rebound.

The points were made safe in emphatic style when Mings' long ball down the left was chased down by Murphy, whose excellent, first-time shot from the left side of the 18-yard box found the far corner.
