Lille kept themselves within sight of fourth place in Ligue 1 after beating fellow-chasers Bordeaux 2-0 at the Stade Pierre Mauroy on Sunday.

Rene Girard's side scored a goal either side of the break at home, with Nolan Roux and Adama Traore doing the damage in a game that saw six yellow cards issued overall.

However, the win sees Lille now just four points behind Bordeaux, as they picked up their sixth win in seven games, and a third on the trot.

Bordeaux were still on a high from their win over title-chasing Marseille in the previous round and it was evident in their play as Vincent Enyeama in the Lille goal was the first to be worked, though he easily gathered Diego Rolan's header.

Lille, though, raced into the lead thereafter, as on 14 minutes Sofiane Boufal bamboozled Tiago Ilori before picking out Roux, who glanced a header beyond Bordeaux keeper Cedric Carrasso.

The hosts continued to dominate as Sebastien Corchia saw his 25-yard effort deflected over the bar before Marko Basa's header from Boufal's free-kick was gathered by Carrasso.

Bordeaux began to grow into the game as half-time approached and Enyeama was worked again, tipping over Rolan's effort, before Djibril Sidibe made a vital interception to deny the busy forward a shot at goal from six yards out.

The visitors came flying out of the traps after the restart with Enyeama saving once again, this time from Henri Saivet's header.

Then Simon Kjaer was forced to hack off his own line when Saivet's lob beat Enyeama moments before Wahbi Khazri's corner almost crept in.

Les Girondins continued to press but Ilori missed arguably their best chance just after the hour mark when the Liverpool loanee prodded over from a well-worked corner before Enyeama made a superb stop by pushing Saivet's toe-poke onto the post.

Despite the visitors' dominance in the second half it was Lille who wrapped up the points deep into added time when they caught Bordeaux out on the break.

Boufal was once again the architect and his pass played in substitute Traore, and the Malian youngster made no mistake with just Carrasso to beat, wrapping up a successful afternoon for the hosts.
