Wahbi Khazri scored a second-half penalty which salvaged a point for fourth place-chasing Bordeaux as they drew 1-1 with Rennes on Saturday.

Paul-Georges Ntep had put Rennes ahead in the 11th minute and they looked on course for all three points until Khazri converted from the spot in the 77th.

The draw means Bordeaux missed the chance to go level on points with Monaco in fourth, who defeated Nice 1-0 on Friday.

Bordeaux had two early chances through Mariano and Khazri but both were denied by Rennes goalkeeper Benoit Costil.

Andre Poko found Mariano at the edge of the box where he took a shot which Benoit Costil saved, before Khazri's 20-yard strike was kept out at full stretch by the Rennes custodian.

The next effort was good, though, however it came at the other end when Ola Toivonen linked up with Abdoulaye Doucoure, who flicked the ball towards Ntep on the edge of the box. The midfielder pulled the trigger and released a terrific shot which fooled Bordeaux keeper Cedric Carrasso.

Bordeaux had three more decent chances to level before the break, but Costil was equal to them, although he was helped out by the woodwork on one occasion.

First Isaac Thelin freed Khazri for a low strike which Costil blocked before he punched Henri Saivet's superb volley clear.

The former France Under-21 international then punched Khazri's free-kick onto the crossbar as Rennes held on to their narrow lead at the break.

Bordeaux picked up where they left off in the second half by creating more chances, with Khazri shooting then heading wide within the space of two minutes.

The Tunisia international was proving to be a handful and he got his just desserts early in the last quarter of the match when Romain Danze brought down Diego Rolan in the area, with Khazri converting the resulting penalty.

Rennes had one last chance to regain the lead through Toivonen two minutes before the end,but his low volley was put behind by Carrasso.
