Lorient ended a four-match losing run as Raphael Guerreiro's second-half strike gave them a 1-0 win over Lille.

Sylvain Ripoll's men were in a wretched run of form in all competitions heading into this fixture, but defender Guerreiro's 59th-minute effort ensured they claimed their first three-point haul of the year.

The victory lifted Lorient five points clear of the Ligue 1 relegation zone and one behind Lille, who will be looking over their shoulders again after their three-match winning streak was ended.

It was Lille who entered the clash at the Stade du Moustoir with all the momentum and they looked to stamp their authority on it early on as Nolan Roux's strike in the opening minute was tipped over by Lorient goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte.

Roux then brushed the outside of a post with a low drive shortly after Lille custodian Vincent Enyeama palmed away Guerreiro's close-range volley.

Lorient, who lost 2-0 in the corresponding fixture in August, were denied again when Enyeama saved after Benjamin Jeannot had wriggled his way into the box before getting his shot away.

Enyeama was kept busy at the beginning of the second half as Walid Mesloub's close-range strike and his free-kick were kept out, but there was nothing he could do to stop Lorient taking a 59th-minute lead.

Mathias Autret's cross from the right created havoc in Lille's area as Jeannot and Autret himself both saw shots blocked before Guerreiro slammed in at the far post.

The Portuguese was in thick of the action once more after being freed by Gilles Sunu, but this time Enyeama was equal to his shot.

Lille offered little in the way of a response to going behind and they would have lost by a greater margin, but Enyeama once again denied Guerreiro, whose strike from just outside the area was well saved.
