Ligue 1 newcomers Caen got their season off to the perfect start after they claimed a 3-0 win away at Evian on the opening day of their campaign.

Mathieu Duhamel scored twice following Ngolo Kante's opener as Caen stormed to a three-goal lead by the half-time whistle before holding onto their advantage in the second period.

The result put Caen at the top of the overall standings with two games left to play in the first round of fixtures.

The newly-promoted side dominated the first half, with Duhamel's early header just drifting wide and giving a hint of what was to come.

The visitors did not have to wait long to break the deadlock as Kante converted Lenny Nangis' pull-back from close range in the 11th minute to score Caen's first goal back in the top flight.

Duhamel got the best of Evian goalkeeper Jesper Hansen in the 31st minute to add Caen's second after Nangis' 20-yard cross-shot was denied.

The 30-year-old striker was on target again five minutes later after her was allowed time and space in the area to power a wonderful header beyond Hansen from Florian Raspentino's delivery.

After the break, the impressive Nangis continued to terrorise the hosts' defence, wriggling his way into the area before drawing a save from Hansen who was forced to push the ball over his own bar.

Raspentino then warmed Hansen's gloves in the Evian goal after latching on to Feret's clever pass with the outside of his foot.

At the other end, Nicolas Benezet failed to make the most of a rare Evian attack when he saw his header from Youssouf Sabaly's cross go out for a corner.

Evian had another effort at goal in the 81st minute but again Remy Vercoutre was hardly tested in the Caen goal as the visitors came out on top.
