Mathieu Debuchy could miss France's opening World Cup games following an injury during his side's 8-0 thrashing of Jamaica in Lille.

The Newcastle United full-back was forced off at half time with a leg injury - giving Arsenal's Bacary Sagna the chance to secure the right-back spot.

Earlier in the game, PSG midfielder Yohan Cabaye opened the scoring in the 17th minute after finishing off a superbly-worked team move, with Arsenal's Olivier Giroud providing the assist for the ex-Newcastle playmaker.

Les Bleus doubled their lead just three minutes later when Blaise Matuidi fired in a low shot from 20 yards - leaving Jamaica goalkeeper Jacomeno Barrett with no chance.

Didier Deschamps opted to play Karim Benzema on the left-hand side in place of injured Franck Ribery, and the Real Madrid forward added a third before half-time - executing a magnificent curling effort from the corner of the Jamaican area.

France continued their onslaught after the break and added a fourth on 53 minute through the Gunners' striker Giroud - who tapped in Benzema's perfectly weighted cross.

The Real Madrid striker and Matuidi both doubled their tally for the game after the hour mark to make it 6-0, with France completing their rout of the Caribbean side after a late Antoine Griezmann brace.

Deschamps confirmed at half-time that he hopes the injury to Debuchy is not serious and said: "He felt a little discomfort when he runs, he will get treatment."

Despite concerns over Debuchy's fitness, one positive for Deschamps was that Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin made his debut after coming on as a late substitute - with the midfielder one of six Saints players heading to Brazil.

France begin their campaign Honduras next Sunday in Porto Alegre.
