Tim Cahill: Scored Australia's equaliser against South Africa

Tim Cahill believes there were glimpses of promise after Australia were held to a 1-1 draw by South Africa in Sydney.

South Africa, who have not qualified for the World Cup finals, took the lead in front of over 50,000 spectators on 13 minutes through Ayanda Patosi.

However, Australia's all-time leading scorer Cahill equalised just a minute later when the New York Red Bulls attacker headed home Tommy Oar's cross.

"It's always great to score, but there were also some good points to the game and a chance to fix some things," said Cahill afterwards.

"There were some glimpses of some great stuff. We did a lot of things we were supposed to and we'll probably work on the things we didn't do.

"They had one attack and they scored. We got the momentum back, we got the goal and stayed true to ourselves. Overall, it could have been a lot better result.

"It's three weeks until the first game at the World Cup. It's the first time a lot of us have actually played competitively together.

"I thought we were very brave and we made some mistakes here and there. But overall we've got to be ready to play the bigger teams."

Australia open their World Cup campaign against Chile on June 13 before also meeting the Netherlands and Spain, the two teams who contested the 2010 final, in Group B.
