Viktoria Plzen: Celebrate their only goal in Lyon

Viktoria Plzen defender Vaclav Prochazka believes an early goal will be key to turning around their 4-1 first leg deficit at home to Lyon.

The Czech side have recovered from losing the opening leg of a European tie just once before - against Lokeren in the Europa League play-offs last season - but the task facing them on Thursday is considerably greater.

Plzen have won only one of their last four home fixtures in Europe but victory alone will not be enough as they need to win by three goals to reach the quarter-finals.

However, Prochazka insists they can take confidence from their game in France.

"In the first match we had a good start, we went ahead and had another two chances," he told fcviktoria.cz.

"In the second half we could have opened up a bigger margin but failed and we discovered that once they get to the later stages they are uncompromising (scoring three goals in the last 37 minutes).

"We do not want our opponent to have breakaways and attack as well we did in the first half at Lyon.

"But the coach showed us a video of our successful moments in Lyon and we would like to use this an example.

"We have four days since our last match so we should all be 100 per cent ready to leave everything on the field and try to reverse the adverse situation."

Lyon will be without Gueida Fofana, who scored twice in the first leg, while fellow midfielder Clement Grenier and defender Samuel Umtiti are also absent, although midfielder Youann Gourcoff has travelled after making his return from six weeks out in Sunday's defeat to Monaco.

Despite their injury problems captain Maxime Gonalons is confident the squad can cope.

"This squad has real potential. There are players missing but those that come in are doing the job," he told olweb.fr.

"They are all playing well and that's very important for the squad.

"After big games it takes a little time to get going again but we are finishing our matches very strongly.

"We are better at controlling certain situations now."
