Alexander Meier hit the woodwork twice but Eintracht Frankfurt failed to get the better of 10-man Werder Bremen, having to settle for a 0-0 draw at the Waldstadion.

Frankfurt dominated the game, showing no signs of tiredness after Thursday night's 2-2 draw at Porto in the Europa League.

Meier hit the post with a free-kick in the first half before heading onto the upright in the 88th minute as Bremen held out, despite playing nearly an hour with 10 men after Felix Kroos was dismissed.

The result leaves both teams locked on 22 points, only three ahead of the drop zone.

Frankfurt only returned from Portugal on Friday, but their coach Armin Veh was convinced his side's recovery from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 would give them the confidence to cover any tiredness from that trip.

Indeed, they looked sharper than Bremen and Joselu nearly gave them the lead in the 15th minute when he was put through on goal, but his shot went just inches wide of the right-hand post.

Frankfurt continued to do all the attacking with Meier presented with the chance to put them in front from a free-kick.

He curled the ball round the wall, but there was not enough bend to beat the post as the ball grazed the woodwork.

Kroos made matters even harder for Bremen when he picked up his second yellow card in a matter of minutes to leave them with 10 men from the 34th minute.

It was immediately backs to the wall for Bremen, who resisted wave after wave of Frankfurt attacks as the hosts slowly started showing tiredness from their midweek travels.

Veh tried to liven things up by introducing Takashi Inui and he set up Meier for the best chance of the match with just two minutes remaining, but the usually reliable Frankfurt attacking midfielder managed to find only the outside of the post with his header.
