Lille celebrate Nolan Roux's late winner

Second-placed Lille moved within one point of Ligue 1 leaders Paris St Germain on Tuesday night with a dramatic, last-gasp 1-0 triumph over Marseille.

Nolan Roux's stoppage-time header was enough to see off Ellie Baup's men at the Grand Stade Lille Metropole after the visitors had dominated for large parts of an entertaining clash.

The result kept the victors hot on the heels of champions PSG, who visit Evian on Wednesday night, and left OM fourth.

In what was a cagey start by both sides, former Lille midfielder Florian Thauvin got an early touch which was met by a chorus of boos from the home fans in what was to be a tough test of the 20-year-old's temperament.

OM goalkeeper Steve Mandanda was called into action within five minutes but the France international was equal to Ronny Rodelin's free-kick from distance. Roux headed the resulting corner over the bar.

Florent Balmont was the next home player to test the gloves of the Marseille stopper with a long-range attempt as Lille looked to apply some early pressure.

Baup's side offered a warning soon after, though, when Thauvin's direct running put the LOSC defence on the back foot before Benoit Cheyrou teed up Andre-Pierre Gignac only for his effort to be well saved by Vincent Enyeama.

With half-time approaching a goal looked unlikely as the game entered a scrappy period, and that proved to be the case as both teams disappeared down the tunnel with the scores level.

Neither boss opted to make changes at the break and it was Marseille who found their footing the quicker in the second half, when Gignac acrobatically turned Dmitri Payet's cross goalwards only for Enyeama to match his effort with a superb save.

The impressive Nigerian goalkeeper was proving to be tough opposition for Marseille and the 31-year-old made a magnificent double-save to keep the scores level with 65 minutes played.

Firstly, Thauvin almost silenced the baying home crowd only for his fine shot to be kept out, and then Gignac followed up with a stinging volley only for the Lille stopper to deny the visitors once again.

Marseille continued to press as Gignac headed agonisingly wide with Enyeama coolly looking on.

Referee Laurent Duhamel then angered the home crowd by waving play on as they called for a penalty. Roux burst into the area and poked the ball beyond Mandanda before going down in a heap, but Duhamel was unmoved.

However, that disappointment soon turned to delight when Roux popped up with seconds to spare to steal all three points for the hosts.

Balmont was allowed time out wide to deliver and his pinpoint cross was met by the former Brest striker, who headed beyond Mandanda.
