Aberdeen recorded their third straight win over Partick this season as Andy Considine's early header secured a 1-0 win and a ticket to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

After their early breakthrough Derek McInnes' men were rarely troubled by a toothless Thistle, who slipped tamely to a fifth consecutive defeat.

Aberdeen forged ahead when Barry Robson's corner kick picked out Considine in the fifth minute and the defender crashed home a stooping header from six yards.

With 1,800 fans roaring them on, Aberdeen went for the jugular, Scott Fox having to claw away Peter Pawlett's dipping 25-yard volley and the Thistle keeper again showed his agility to keep out Ryan Jack's deflected effort.

Kallum Higginbotham dragged a bobbling shot across the face but is was a very rare threat to the visitors' goal, Gregg Wylde blazing wide at the other end after a lung-bursting run.

Calvin Zola headed over as the Dons again exposed Thistle's soft defensive centre before Thistle glavanised a brief - if ultimately fruitless - flurry before the break.

Aberdeen were content to hold what they had for much of the second period, and remained largely untroubled, a vain appeal for handball against Russell Anderson notwithstanding.

Niall McGinn found the side-netting from the angle before Higginbotham finally forced Jamie Langfield into his first serious save of the game with 10 minutes remaining.

Thistle pressed in vain for a late leveller, but it was Aberdeen who came closest to finding the net again, McGinn crashing one off the upright in added time.
