Oscar Wendt: On target for Gladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach moved to within three points of Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga after a 2-0 win at Stuttgart.

Their fourth win in a row lifted them four points clear of Wolfsburg in fifth, keeping them on course for a place in the Champions League next season with another fine display of attacking football.

Both sides had chances before Raffael gave the visitors the lead 10 minutes before the break.

Oscar Wendt then doubled their advantage, leaving Stuttgart with only one win on home soil all season.

Stuttgart attacked early on with Ibisevic nearly turning Alexandru Maxim's cross in before Timo Werner twice tested Gladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Gladbach were not only defending, though, and Granit Xhaka twice tried his luck before Patrick Herrmann was denied by Sven Ulreich, Max Kruse lifting the rebound over the crossbar.

A goal was in the air and seemed capable of coming at either end, and it was the visitors who got it.

Herrmann was the provider with a neat pass into the path of Raffael, who held off two Stuttgart defenders before slotting the ball inside Ulreich's left-hand upright.

The goal gave Gladbach confidence and, with a spring in their step, they set about cutting Stuttgart down to size.

Juan Arango went close three times before and just after the interval before Wendt sealed victory.

Herrmann was the provider once again, lifting the ball back from the goal line to his team mate, who fired the ball past Ulreich on the volley from 20 yards out.

The game opened up further with Gladbach missing two chances to get a third before Ibisevic went close once again at the other end, but his failure to meet another low cross was typical of Stuttgart's misfortune.
