Arjen Robben: 'It is clear that we need to take many steps'

Arjen Robben knows Holland need to improve on their last performance against Japan when they face Colombia at the Amsterdam ArenA on Tuesday night (7.30pm).

Holland surrendered a two-goal lead as Japan hit back in their international friendly to draw 2-2 at the Cristal Arena in Belgium on Saturday night.

The Oranje take on a Colombia team who earned an impressive 2-0 win over a strong Belgium side on Thursday and who are ranked fourth in the world.

Robben knows they will present a challenge of far greater magnitude than Japan and has called on his side to make the step up.

He told reporters: "It is clear that we need to take many steps.

"The second half was not fun to play in, that felt like a heavy defeat.

"Japan were the bosses, they had control and that should not happen.

"I have already said earlier that we still have much work to do."

Rafael van der Vaart scored the opening goal at the weekend but he knows the only players certain of a place in the Oranje team at next year's World Cup in Brazil are Robben, Robin van Persie and Kevin Strootman.

Van der Vaart is quoted in AD/Sportwereld as saying: "The coach is very clear.

"The three leaders go to the World Cup and the rest have to fight for a spot."

Radamel Falcao was one of the Colombia goalscorers in Brussels and he is one of the players Holland will have to keep a close eye on.

Ron Vlaar will be one of those charged with keeping the Monaco striker under wraps, although Falcao claims to have never heard of the Aston Villa central defender.

"No, I don't know him," he told RTV Noord-Holland. "I know Stefan de Vrij (Feyenoord captain) though and we have analysed him and we will do more in the coming days.

"It is a good test for us because they are two good teams who both try to play good football. Holland were World Cup finalists in South Africa and that motivates us."
