Sevilla's long wait for an away win in the Primera Division goes on as they were held 1-1 at Real Sociedad

Sevilla's long wait for an away win in the Primera Division goes on as they were unable to hold on to a half-time lead and drew 1-1 at Real Sociedad. Jairo Samperio's neat finish in the 18th minute put Sevilla on course for a first away victory in La Liga in 20 attempts but Sociedad hit back in the second half to draw level through Antoine Griezmann. Sociedad then pushed hard for a winner but they could not find it, despite Sevilla playing out the final five minutes with a man less following Juan Cala's dismissal. The result leaves both clubs still with only one league win to their name so far this season and stuck in the bottom half of the table. Sevilla, who beat Rayo Vallecano 4-1 last time out to ease the pressure on coach Unai Emery, took the lead with the first genuine chance of the match when summer signing Jairo did superbly to pull down a long ball forward and then dink a clever finish over Claudio Bravo. That is the way the score stayed until the second half, although Sevilla should really have been celebrating a 2-0 lead just before the break with Piotr Trochowski missing a great chance for the visitors. Sociedad looked a much more potent attacking force after the interval and Carlos Vela went close soon after the restart before the Mexico international saw his 56th-minute header come back off the post. Bravo still needed to be alert at the other end though, and his brilliant save to tip behind Jairo's shot prevented Sociedad from going two goals down. That proved crucial as seven minutes later the home side drew level. Vela's inswinging cross from the left picked out Griezmann running in at the far post, and although his first header was stopped on the line by Sevilla goalkeeper Antonio Beto, the Frenchman slammed the rebound into the roof of the net. Sociedad looked the more likely winners after that but, even when Sevilla were reduced to 10 men following Cala's second caution, they could not find a second goal with Vela heading their best chance wide at the far post.
