Atalanta celebrate their victory at Chievo
Atalanta took all three points for a second successive game as Maximiliano Moralez's early strike steered them to a 1-0 win at Chievo.
Moralez netted what proved to be only goal of the Serie A contest in the 16th minute, volleying in from Christian Raimondi's tee-up.
The victory follows the 2-0 home league win over Udinese last weekend, prior to which Atalanta had lost three matches in a row.
Struggling Chievo, meanwhile, are now on a three-game losing streak themselves and have been defeated in a five of their seven league fixtures this season.
The hosts were lively in the opening stages, with frontman Alberto Paloschi sending a header skimming over the bar and a shot wide.
The unmarked Paloschi then blazed over from inside the area, and a minute later Moralez lashed in after being set up by Raimondi.
Chievo were soon back on the offensive as Paloschi fed Cyril Thereau, whose shot was too high.
Marcelo Estigarribia was then played in by Paloschi and put a left-foot effort the wrong side of the post.
German Denis struck narrowly over from close range for the visitors before Paloschi missed inside the six-yard box and Estigarribia brought a save out of Andrea Consigli.
Thereau's cross-shot was tipped over by Consigli three minutes after the restart, and Atalanta then began to show more of a threat, with Cristian Puggioni saving a drilled Raimondi long-range effort and a Moralez attempt from inside the area.
Puggioni produced a great stop on the hour mark to deny Luca Cigarini and Chievo then hit back as Gennaro Sardo put a bicycle kick over from a corner and Paloschi set up Sergio Pellissier, who could only shoot weakly at Consigli.
Consigli then had help from the bar in keeping out a Pellissier shot, with Stefano Lucchini blocking the follow-up effort from the same striker.
In stoppage time Consigli easily dealt with a Thereau volley and Atalanta survived a scramble in which a Luca Rigoni shot was blocked by Lucchini.
There was still time for a Paloschi header to brush the post before another loss for the home side was confirmed by the final whistle.
