  1. Thanks for joining me on today's live commentary. We'll be covering the Asia Trophy 3/4 place play-off and final here on Saturday too.

  2. FT

That's it. Manchester City beat South China 1-0 to give Manuel Pellegrini his first win. City will face Sunderland in the Asia Trophy final on Saturday.

  3. 80

Into the final moments, and Dhiego Martins was again threatening to carve out an opening for South China, but City stand firm.

  4. 77

James Milner is co-commentator Niall Quinn's choice for man of the match, and it's hard to argue with that. Most of the City players haven't really caught the eye, while Milner has combined his usual energy and enthusiasm with some intelligent wing-play too.

  5. 76

A break in play as Richards, who's just comes on, needs treatment for a cut in his mouth. Accidental collision on a corner.

  6. 75

Richards and Sinclair ON, Zabaleta and Dzeko OFF for City.

  7. 73

South China are struggling to deal with Alvaro Negredo's power and as the Spain striker bustles into the box, he pulls a cross back and the ball is headed clear.

  8. 71

Nasri takes a pot-shot on goal from 20 yards but his effort is deflected out for a corner.

  9. 69

City are just about doing enough here. Joe Hart hasn't really had a save of note to make, but there's very little urgency from the visitors. They seem happy to coast to a 1-0 win.

  10. 67

Milner spots the South China goalkeeper off his line and tries to chip him from 35 yards but he can't get the shot on target.

  11. 66

Javi Garcia ON, Fernandinho OFF, for Manchester City.

  12. 66

Michael Luk ON, Jack Sealy OFF for South China.

  13. 64

Dzeko nearly has a second goal, but an excellent save from goalkeeper Zhang denies him. Negredo set up the chance with a clever pass into the box.

  14. 62

An acrobatic effort from Negredo, who attempts to connect with a scissors kick as the cross comes in from the left.

  15. 59

Milner manages to free himself from the shackles of two South China defenders near the touchline on the right, but his looping cross into the box is overhit.

  16. 58

Kolarov's cross from the left just eludes Negredo and City have to be careful as Martins looks to scamper away down the right again. Just over 20 minutes to go here in Hong Kong.

  17. 55

Rodwell and Negredo come ON for Manchester City, with Barry and Yaya Toure coming OFF.

  18. 53

It's the substitute Martins again causing problems on the right, and this time South China get very close to the City goal before Fernandinho has to clear.

  19. 52

Lee Wai Lin goes OFF for South China, his brother Lee Hong Lim comes ON.

  20. 51

Yaya Toure appeals for a penalty after going down under Joel's challenge in the area. However, Taylor waves play on. Nasri had set up Toure after good work on the left by Kolarov.

  21. 50

City being overly cautious at the back after those brief scares.

  22. 48

Milner is on the receiving end of a tough challenge from Chak. The free-kick from the right is headed away.

  23. 46

An excellent move from South China, and Sealy's low cross from the right eventually has to be dealt with.

  24. 43

Lively entrance from the new man Martins, who gets a slice of luck before cantering away down the right wing.

  25. 42

Yaya Toure shoots across the face of goal and wide.

  26. 41

Confirmation that Kolarov has replaced Gael Clichy for Manchester City.

  27. 41

    And we're underway again.

  28. Dhiego Martins is on for South China, replacing Cheng.

  29. We're expecting Kolarov to be one of the half-time changes for City. The players are on their way back out in Hong Kong.

  30. Let me know what you made of that first half. Is Dzeko the main man for goals this season? What will Fernandinho bring to City's play? What changes would you like to see in the second half? Get in touch at jon.holmes@bskyb.com or @jonboy79.

  31. 40

No added time, and we've had the allotted 40 minutes of action. Edin Dzeko's header from a James Milner cross on 21 minutes has given Manchester City a 1-0 half-time lead over South China.

  32. 40

Dzeko is just offside from Yaya Toure's pass, with South China playing a high defensive line. They were almost punished there. And it's nearly half-time...

  33. 39

Pablo Zabaleta delivers a ball in from the right as Joel slides in to tackle, and the ball loops up onto the crossbar.

  34. 37

Yaya Toure almost stumbles through on goal but Joel manages to nick the ball away at the crucial moment.

  35. 34

Sean Tse puts the ball behind for a corner as Manchester City threaten again. The centre-back was born in Salford and was on City's Academy and reserve-team books until being released last year.

  36. 32

Milner's fine to continue - must have been a temporary twinge. City taking great care with their passing on this difficult surface.

  37. 30

Nasri's cross is deflected off Sealy for a corner. Milner appears to have taken a slight knock.

  38. 28

Having taken the lead, City are patiently trying to build up attacking moves as they seek a second goal. Nasri is their most positive player at the moment.

  39. 26

South China again try to free Cheng down the right channel but Kompany is there to tidy up.

  40. 23

That goal's put City on course to meet Sunderland in the final on Saturday. South China would face Tottenham in the 3rd/4th place play-off.

  41. 21

Tremendous work from James Milner. He skips round the South China defender's tackle and sits the ball up perfectly for Dzeko to nod home the opener.

  42. 21

GOAL! South China 0 Manchester City 1 (Dzeko 21)

  43. 20

The offside flag is raised against Cheng, who was trying to get free on the right side of the area.

  44. 18

Zhang makes a smart save to his left to keep out Yaya Toure's header from a Milner cross from the right. Then South China break quickly and force a corner at the other end.

  45. 17

Dzeko can't quite reach Milner's teasing low cross from the right. Good work from Fernandinho to set the England man racing away.

  46. 15

City win a couple of corners, and Joel eventually heads the ball away to relieve the pressure.

  47. 13

A shot on goal from Dzeko! The Bosnian tricks Sealy on the left flank and hits a right-footed effort but it's wide of the post.

  48. 11

South China pump the ball downfield but Kompany coolly plays it off to Lescott and City regain possession.

  49. 9

Suddenly a chance opens up for Lee Wai Lim in the area, but he can't turn fast enough and Hart is able to gather the ball.

  50. 8

Nasri's seeing a lot of the ball on the left wing. City are spreading the play to the flanks as much as possible in their 4-5-1 formation, but they haven't created many openings yet.

  51. 6

South China's right-back Jack Sealy is the son of former QPR striker Tony Sealy. Jack was born in London but came to Hong Kong at the age of five. His father has been manager of Hong Kong FC since 1995.

  52. 5

Zabaleta comes off worse in a challenge from Mamadou Barry, South China's big Guinean striker. But he's OK to continue.

  53. 3

The surface is cutting up terribly as you'd expect, but City are going about their business without any fuss. Great control from Nasri there, bringing down Milner's high cross from the right.

  54. 1

We're underway, with South China kicking us off.

  55. Applause in memory of former Manchester City goalkeeper Bert Trautmann, who sadly passed away recently.

  56. The teams are coming out onto the pitch. Manchester City are wearing their new black and charcoal away kit. South China are in red shirts with white shorts.

  57. Anthony Taylor will be today's referee. Like the first semi-final, this will also be played over two halves of 40 minutes each.

  58. South China starting line-up: Zhang; Sealy, Tse, Joel, Kwok; Chak, Ticao, Cheng, Naves, Lee Wai Lim; Barry.

  59. The pitch doesn't look in great shape to say the least, after Sunderland beat Tottenham 3-1 in an 80-minute match earlier.

  60. New coach Manuel Pellegrini is back in the City dug-out today after taking a period of leave following the death of his mother.

  61. Can City see off their hosts and book a place in the final against Sunderland on Saturday? Let me know your thoughts ahead of kick-off. Email me at jon.holmes@bskyb.com or give me a shout on Twitter at @jonboy79.

  62. Man City bench: Richards, Negredo, Sinclair, Kolarov, Garcia, Aguero, Rodwell, Pantilimon, Nastasic, Suarez, Boyata, Nimely, Huws, Razak.
