Osasuna require close to a miracle if they are to avoid relegation from the Primera Division after they drew 1-1 with Espanyol. The result did little to help their plight as they remained firmly in the relegation zone. The Navarrans went behind to a Diego Colotto goal midway through the first half but drew level right before half-time thanks to Javier Acuna. Miguel de Las Cuevas came close to scoring a vital winner late on, but was unable to hit the target meaning Osasuna would have to settle for a draw, which is of little use as fellow strugglers Getafe and Almeria both won their games to move two points clear of the Navarrans. It means that if Osasuna are to avoid a return to the Segunda Division for the first time in 14 years they must beat Real Betis at home on the final day of the season and hope that one of Granada, Getafe or Almeria fail to win their last match. Osasuna had more of the ball in the opening stages of the game but the hosts looked more dangerous when they attacked. Javier Aguirre's side almost took the lead in the 20th minute when Osasuna goalkeeper Andres Fernandez was beaten in the air by Sergio Garcia, but Miguel Flano saved his team-mate's blushes by clearing the header off the line. There would be no respite for Osasuna, however, as Colotto turned the following corner into the net. Javi Gracia's side took half an hour to muster their first shot on goal, a wayward shot from Roberto Torres, but it preceded a flurry of attacks from the visitors before the break, which culminated in Acuna steering a free-kick from Patxi Punal into the net. Osasuna were unable to continue playing with the same urgency with which they finished the first half after the break, until Gracia threw on winger Emiliano Armenteros on the hour mark. The Argentine's introduction lead to the Navarrans taking more initiative but they were unable to convert their momentum into tangible chances. De Las Cuevas came closest to getting a winner, letting fly from the edge of the box with eight minutes to go, but was unable to hit the target. Other results mean Espanyol are now mathematically safe, but their players were in little mood to celebrate as they bade farewell to their fans for another season, unable to deliver them a victory in any of the last five home matches.
