Mathias Pogba: Opened the scoring

Crewe boosted their League One survival hopes with a 3-1 win at Shrewsbury, who are now five points adrift of safety.

Crewe have put a run of three successive away wins together at just the right time of the season to climb out of the bottom four.

The visitors started brightly with Byron Moore blazing over from a good position.

Shrewsbury gradually settled and on-loan striker Shaun Miller, who started his career with the Railwaymen, forced a sharp save from home goalkeeper Ben Garratt, low to his right.

Crewe made the breakthrough in the 38th minute when Mathias Pogba rose highest to power home a header from Jon Guthrie's right-wing corner, the ball taking a notable deflection on its way past Chris Weale.

Crewe doubled their advantage early in the second half when Uche Ikpeazu turned sharply and rifled a fine shot into the top corner from 15 yards.

Shrewsbury went in search of a way back into the game, but chances were hard to come by and Crewe broke clear to add a third goal in the 89th minute when Anthony Grant ran from the halfway line to finish coolly.

Substitute Tom Bradshaw clawed a goal back for Shrewsbury in stoppage time, but it was little consolation for Mike Jackson's strugglers.
