Jefferson Farfan inspired Schalke to their 10th point in the last four games with a brace in a 3-0 win over Stuttgart. The Peru international gave the Royal Blues the lead in the first half before adding a second from the penalty spot early in the second half. Jermaine Jones rounded off victory with a 25-yarder before Max Meyer saw a goal disallowed on the day he committed himself to the club until 2018. Just minutes before the game commenced, news of Meyer's contract extension had the home fans in high spirits already. There was not too much for Schalke's fans to cheer early on, though, with Stuttgart making a bright start to the game. Indeed, the visitors could have gone in front when Alexandru Maxim put Timo Werner through on goal, but he sent his shot an inch wide of the left-hand post. Schalke went close with Joel Matip hitting the crossbar with a header and Adam Szalai then heading wide from a promising position, but it was a case of third-time lucky as Farfan put them in front in the 34th minute. The angle was not perfect, but the Peruvian got enough power on the shot to beat a weak arm of Sven Ulreich and give Schalke the lead. Less than two minutes into the second half, Farfan stepped up to the penalty spot to make it two after Julian Draxler had been felled from behind by Christian Gentner. The game lost life for a while before Jones provided a candidate for goal of the month, volleying past a helpless Ulreich from 25 yards out to seal victory. Schalke thought they had a fourth when Meyer tucked in the rebound after Boateng's header came back off the post, but the goal was disallowed for offside as the 18-year-old was denied a goal on the day he committed to the club.
