Arjen Robben maintained Bayern Munich's blistering pace at the top of the Bundesliga with both goals in a 2-0 win over bottom-placed Eintracht Braunschweig on Saturday.

It looked set to be a struggle to leave Munich with pride intact for Braunschweig when Robben scored in only the second minute.

The Dutchman added a second on the half-hour mark, but Braunschweig did not fall apart and instead kept the scoreline down to a respectable two, although Bayern appeared to take their foot off the gas towards the end.

Less than two minutes had been played when Robben gave Bayern the lead, confirming Braunschweig's worst fears on the eve of the game.

Mario Gotze sent the ball forward for Robben, who took it down well before striking against the post, seeing the ball bounce back and up for him to head in.

If Braunschweig had started the game with 10 men behind the ball, that became 11 as they tried to keep Bayern at bay.

They withheld until the 30th minute when Toni Kroos set up Robben, who cut inside in ominous fashion before providing a typical finish.

Bayern held the ball among their ranks, reaching an astonishing 82 per cent possession at one stage.

Only in the second half did the European champions start to take it a little easier, and they almost conceded when Marco Caligiuri's shot took a deflection off Dante, but Manuel Neuer managed to keep the ball out.

Dominik Kumbela posed a threat to Neuer's goal later with David Alaba making a fine clearance from just in front of the goal to save his goalkeeper, but Bayern's lead - and another three points - were never really in any doubt.
