Thrilling draw at Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt and Schalke shared six goals between them as they drew 3-3 in an entertaining encounter at the Waldstadion. Johannes Flum gave Schalke the lead with an own goal before Joel Matip added a second. Flum then scored at the right end before two goals from Joselu turned the game on its head, giving Frankfurt the lead. Benedikt Howedes had the final say, however, with an equaliser in the 86th minute, increasing Schalke's advantage over seventh-placed Hertha Berlin to three points. Frankfurt made an encouraging start, trying to get at Schalke early with Martin Lanig missing a glorious opportunity in the 11th minute, shooting just wide from eight yards out. Just three minutes later, Schalke took the lead against the run of play. Atsuto Uchida sent in a cross from the right which Flum diverted into his own goal with his head, the ball striking the underside of the crossbar on its way past a forlorn Kevin Trapp. Schalke doubled their lead soon after with Matip this time intentionally sending a header past Trapp from Dennis Aogo's free-kick. The goals gave the Royal Blues confidence while it took the Eagles a while to recover from the blows, but towards the end of the first half, they appeared to be back on top of their game, and Flum nearly made up for his own goal when he hit the post. Flum's next effort - another header - did make amends for his own goal as he brought Frankfurt back into the game in the 56th minute. Tranquillo Barnetta's free-kick found its way through to Flum, who looped the ball over Timo Hildebrand, who had drifted a little too far off his line and could not keep it out, even if he got his fingertips to the ball. Flum had the ball in the back of the net again moments later, but the goal was ruled out for offside as he converted the ball which came back off the post from Joselu's shot. Joselu was more accurate in the 61st minute to bring Frankfurt back on terms with the fourth headed goal of the game, a precise effort into the top left-hand corner. He then completed the turnaround by giving Frankfurt the lead midway through the second half, showing excellent precision once again to score into the left-hand corner. It was Schalke's turn to respond, and they did that with Howedes bringing them level with just under five minutes left to play. The Germany international picked up a loose ball inside the penalty area and showed the same kind of eye for goal as Joselu to complete the scoring at the Waldstadion.
