Bayern Munich set a new record of 37 games unbeaten with a comfortable 3-0 win over Augsburg. Jerome Boateng, Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller grabbed the goals for the defending champions, who also extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to four points over Borussia Dortmund, their next opponents in a fortnight's time, after the Westphalians lost to Wolfsburg. Augsburg were rarely in the game and, given the difference in quality between the two sides, they will not be looking forward to meeting Bayern again in the DFB-Pokal next month. Bayern made Marwin Hitz aware of what was to come in the fourth minute when he was forced to race from his goal to deny Mario Mandzukic, lifting himself back up to push the follow-up shot behind for a corner. The danger was not over there, though, and from the corner, Boateng found room at the far post to turn and sweep the ball high into the roof of the net on the turn. Augsburg had to come out of their shells and they enjoyed a brief spell of pressure, culminating in Tobias Werner sending a shot over the bar. However, they rarely looked as dangerous as Bayern did each time they attacked with Mandzukic and Ribery both missing chances. Three minutes before the break, Bayern doubled their lead through Ribery. The Frenchman stepped up for a free-kick from just outside the penalty area and rifled a shot past the wall, which seemed to have been placed badly, and into the top right-hand corner of Hitz's goal. Bayern's domination continued in the second half, but they had to wait until deep into stoppage time before scoring a third. A generous penalty decision for handball allowed Muller to score from the spot, placing the ball coolly into the bottom left-hand corner.
