Werder Bremen picked up their second straight 1-0 win to continue their perfect start to life in the Bundesliga under new coach Robin Dutt.

Mehmet Ekici's fourth goal for the club was enough to keep them in a share of top spot and leave Augsburg languishing near the bottom with two defeats from two and no goals yet to show for their efforts this season.

However, like a week ago in Braunschweig, Bremen were fortunate to come away with all three points and they will be happier with the result than their performance.

Former Borussia Monchengladbach forward Raul Bobadilla took his place on the Augsburg bench 48 hours after joining from Basel, and he has fond memories of facing Bremen, scoring twice against them for his former club back in January 2010.

Eljero Elia was given a place in the Bremen attack as he searched for his first goal for the club, but he did not get much of a sight of the ball as a confident Augsburg made a better start.

Sebastian Mielitz made a good save to deny Andre Hahn after he was able to race clear of Sebastian Prodl.

Just like they did a week ago at Eintracht Braunschweig, Bremen then took the lead against the run of play with Ekici slipping past Jan Moravek before shooting low from 25 yards, through the legs of Ragnar Klavan and out of Mohamed Amsif's reach.

Augsburg continued to hold the upper hand in all the statistics but the one which mattered, and efforts to redress that issue went unrewarded.

Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker headed just wide as Bremen resorted once again to their counter-attacking mode.

Aaron Hunt and Nils Petersen both wasted chances to seal victory on the break, but the one goal from Ekici proved enough as Augsburg went home empty handed.
