Cedric Cambon scored the only goal of the game as Evian moved five points clear of the Ligue 1 relegation zone with a 1-0 win over Guingamp.
Cambon headed home Cedric Barbosa's free-kick in the 49th minute to hand the visitors all three points and give them a major boost in their battle to avoid the drop.
The win lifted Evian to within two points of their opponents who saw their two-game winning streak brought to an end.
Visiting goalkeeper Jesper Hansen was called into action in just the second minute as Rachid Alioui found Thibault Giresse 20 yards out and the Dane did well to claw his shot round the post.
The home side were having the better of the first period and just before the half-hour the roles were reversed as Giresse freed Alioui to take a long-range shot but once again the keeper was equal to it.
Guingamp had another chance to take the lead just moments later as Mustapha Yatabare got his head to Giresse's corner but Hansen was again on hand to make the save.
Evian had barely been in the contest so far but their first real chance nearly brought a goal four minutes before the break when Marco Ruben's curling effort brought an impressive save from Mamadou Samassa.
Four minutes after the interval,
Samassa was beaten as Barbosa supplied the set-piece and an unmarked Cambon was on hand to head home.
The home side nearly equalised through a set-piece of their own 10 minutes later as Claudio Beauvue got on the end of a Giresse corner but he could only head inches wide.
Barbosa nearly doubled the lead 20 minutes from time when he sent a free-kick over the bar but the game ended much how it started with Hansen getting his team out of jail.
Mana Dembele found Younousse Sankhare at the edge of the penalty area and his volley was heading for the back of the net before Hansen made a block to keep the three points safe for the visitors.
