Anthony Mounier runs away to celebrate
Montpellier picked up their first away win of the season, easing their relegation fears with a 2-0 triumph at the expense of rivals Sochaux.
A goal in each half from Anthony Mounier and Siaka Tiene enabled the 2012 Ligue 1 champions to deepen the troubles of Sochaux, who had Nathan Sinkala dismissed for a bad first-half challenge.
The visitors were quickest off the mark and in the 16th minute Morgan Sanson crashed a shot against a post after Remy Cabella had created the opening.
It was 1-0 three minutes later. Cabella ended an enterprising run with a ball to Mounier - and the striker beat Pierrick Cros with a right-foot shot.
After Cedrik Bakambu had threatened for the home side, Sochaux's task was made even harder when Sinkala, who had already been booked, received a second yellow card for a crude lunge on Sanson.
Just before the break Sochaux goalkeeper Cros did well to deny Babacar Niang after Benjamin Stambouli had picked up possession.
The home side maintained control after the turnaround and Cros did brilliantly to keep out Cabella's curling right-foot effort in the 55th minute.
Stambouli wasted a good chance just past the hour mark - but the visitors ended any doubts about the outcome 16 minutes from time.
Joris Marveaux flicked the ball to Souleymane Camara who beat home defender Stopilla Sunzu and passed to Tiene - and the Ivorian scored with a low right-foot shot which beat Cros at his near post.
