Eduardo (centre) celebrates his late Ajaccio equaliser

Ajaccio rode their luck before Eduardo's 82nd-minute equaliser earned them a barely-deserved point in their Corsican derby against Bastia at an empty Stade Francois Coty.

Both sets of supporters were banned from attending following troubles in both matches last season, which also included seven red cards on the pitch.

With the stands bare, any ill feeling rarely bubbled over among the players after Florian Raspentino squeezed in an eighth-minute opener for the away side.

Bastia had chances to increase their lead with Francois Modesto and Raspentino both hitting the crossbar before home defender Joshua Nadeau saw red on 62 minutes for a high challenge on Adama Ba.

After the events of last season it was perhaps a soft dismissal, especially after Ajaccio striker Denis Oliech did appear to try and revive his battle with Mickael Landreau when he clashed with the goalkeeper in the first half.

Oliech was sent off for a bad challenge on Landreau to prompt a mass brawl in Bastia last season, but his side were far more sedate in an opening period controlled by Bastia.

Their opener came following some sloppy defending. Guillermo Ochoa punched Ryad Boudebouz's well-hit drive straight to Raspentino, and while he initially over-ran the ball, he was allowed a second chance to squeeze a shot home.

Bastia suffered a blow when Wahbi Khazri limped off to be replaced by Ba before Landreau was renewing his battle with Oliech after the striker had left a leg in after chasing a through-ball.

Ajaccio nearly took a 2-0 lead just before the break when Modesto rose highest to power a Boudebouz corner against the crossbar.

Boudebouz was the provider again shortly after half-time when Raspentino poked a shot against the crossbar, and while Ajaccio were passing up their chances, they were handed a man advantage following Nadeau's slightly harsh dismissal with half an hour to go.

Bastia pushed forward for the goal that would kill off the game but out of nowhere they conceded an equaliser.

The away defence appeared well set to deal with Johan Cavalli's through-ball, but Eduardo timed his run in behind as perfectly as the ball was played to collect and take a touch before deftly chipping Landreau.
