Ten-man Bastia continued their unbeaten home record this season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nice in the Stade Armand Cesari.

Victory for Frederic Hantz's men was the perfect tonic after his side were hammered 4-0 last week in Paris and Sebastien Squillaci's solitary strike was enough to seal all three points.

Both teams were reduced to ten-men in the second-half with Gianni Bruno being shown a straight red for the hosts shortly before the hour mark, while Nice's Mahamane Traore was booked for the second time late on.

Defeat on the road for Nice means they have now lost their last three consecutive away matches without managing to score.

The hosts went close on the quarter hour mark through Bruno but he failed to find the target at the back post after Wahbi Khazri picked him out from the right wing.

Nampalys Mendy blazed over Mickael Landreau's bar in what proved to be a rare first-half attack for the visitors before Bruno tested David Ospina with a fantastic strike from 20 yards forcing the keeper to turn the ball away.

Bastia made full use of the resulting corner when Ryad Boudebouz picked out Squillaci at the far post and the former Arsenal defender headed beyond David Ospina to send his team into a first-half lead.

With half-time rapidly approaching Nice tried to haul themselves back into the game but Didier Digard's 20-yard effort was deflected wide and, from the resulting corner, Dario Cvitanich mis-controlled at a crucial time and Landreau was able to gather.

Bastia wasted no time after the restart and almost grabbed a second but Milos Krasic could only head into the side-netting when Khazri picked him out at the far post.

However, Landreau was called upon with just over 10 minutes played in the second-half and the France goalkeeper showed superb skills to prevent Mathieu Bodmer levelling the scores.

Moments later, Bastia's evening took a turn for the worse when Bruno was given his marching orders for an ugly challenge on Nemanja Pejcinovic and the hosts were faced with the prospect of playing out the last half hour with 10 men.

As expected, Nice began to apply pressure and Frederic Hantz was thankful to his goalkeeper again as Landreau made another great stop, this time to deny Valentin Eysseric from 20 yards with 15 minutes left to play.

Nice's chances of an equaliser were dented with three minutes left to play when they were also reduced to ten men after Traore was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Ilan and the hosts held out to take a valuable three points.
