Francois Modesto scored a late equaliser as Bastia stole a 2-2 draw from their trip to St Etienne's Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

Francois Modesto scored a contentious equaliser with the last kick of the game as Bastia stole a point away from their trip to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. St Etienne had been 2-0 ahead with five minutes to go after goals from summer signing Franck Tabanou and Ismael Diomande in either half. Bastia had barley managed a shot on target when Gianni Bruno headed in on 85 minutes before Modesto slid in for the equaliser for 2-2, albeit with more than a hint of offside, at the back post. St Etienne were aiming to bounce back from consecutive defeats and were unlucky only to have Tabanou's opener to show for a dominant opening half. Bastia's veteran goalkeeper Mickael Landreau kept his side in the contest as he first blocked Renaud Cohade's volley before making a stunning reflex save to deny Romain Hamouma powerful 13th-minute shot. Landreau was again in the way when Mevlut Erding latched onto Tabanou's deflected pass before finally the summer signing from Toulouse found a way to goal on 27 minutes. Faouzi Ghoulam's long throw was allowed to find its way to the back post where Tabanou was on hand to smack his shot in off the underside of the crossbar. ASSE appeared to be getting reward for their dominance when they went 2-0 up 12 minutes after half-time through Diomande. Erding was corralled by the away defence into passing backwards to Diomande, but that proved the ball to unlock Bastia as the Ivorian unleashed an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area. St Etienne were now coasting and again Landreau came to Bastia's rescue keeping out Hamouma and then Erding following a quick counter-attack as time ticked down. There was, however, just enough time for Bastia to steal away a point as Julian Palmieri provided both crosses that led to the away side's goal. Palmieri first outpaced his markers down the left and pulled a cross back from the byline that an unmarked Bruno rose to guide into the far corner. And it was from the same flank that Palmieri then floated a cross to the back post where Modesto was illegally stationed to slide in the equaliser.
