Kilmarnock halted a run of four straight defeats as Kris Boyd scored one and created the other in a 2-1 SPFL win over Ross County in Dingwall.

The veteran striker also hit the woodwork twice as the visitors deservedly claimed their first away win of the season.

Only seven minutes had elapsed when Chris Johnston (7) nipped in to knock home Boyd's drilled cross for his second goal in as many games.

Kilmarnock goalkeeper Craig Samson was largely untroubled but County equalised out of nothing as Samson could only parry Melvin de Leeuw's shot and Stuart Kettlewell (33) gobbled up the extras from 12 yards.

It was County's first-ever goal against Kilmarnock, but their joy was cut short as Boyd's seventh of the season (43) put Killie back in front, his chipped 20-yard strike floating beyond County 'keeper Mark Brown.

The irrepressible Boyd thundered a shot against the underside of the crossbar as the visitors looked to kill the game off and Brown had to be alert to deny the Killie striker shortly after.

Not for the first time in the afternoon, Boyd had his head in his hands as he saw his shot comes back off the goalframe but the stuttering home side were unable to conjure up a second equaliser.
