Steven Gillespie: Set for fitness assessment

Steven Gillespie: Set for fitness assessment

Team news for Saturday's League Two clash between Bristol Rovers and Oxford United at the Memorial Stadium.

Bristol Rovers will assess the fitness of new signing Steven Gillespie ahead of their clash with Oxford.

The 28-year-old signed a short-term deal on Thursday but has been a free agent since leaving Fleetwood last month and is short of regular first-team football so the former Cheltenham man may have to make do with a place on the bench.

Midfielder Seanan Clucas is set for a return to the squad after making his comeback from a knee injury in a reserve game at the club's training ground on Tuesday having been sidelined since early November when he damaged his lateral ligament.

Rovers are without striker Ryan Brunt once more. The former Stoke targetman has undergone knee surgery and is unlikely to play again this season.

Oxford hope to have Michael Raynes and Ryan Williams available for the trip to Bristol Rovers.

Defender Raynes missed their last two matches with a side injury but after responding well to medical treatment could return against the Pirates along with Fulham loanee Williams, who rejoined his team-mates on Thursday after suffering with a calf problem.

Winger Sean Rigg's calf injury sees him miss out on a return to his first employees while captain Jake Wright will be sidelined for another two to three weeks with the deep cut he sustained to his knee in the win over Torquay.

Alfie Potter and Jon Meades are back in light training but miss out once more in a match that Rovers are optimistic will go ahead despite heavy rainfall.
