Daniel Nardiello grabbed a brace as Bury made it six games unbeaten by powering to a 4-1 win at relegation rivals Mansfield.
After a fine home win over Fleetwood on Saturday, the Stags produced a pale shadow of that display as they turned in one of their worst 90 minutes of the season. A scrappy first 25 minutes saw the deadlock broken when Mansfield paid the price for giving Danny Mayor too much time and space on the ball and he drilled a low finish across Alan Marriott and inside the far post from 20 yards. Nardiello almost doubled that advantage after 39 minutes as he turned a low Mayor cross at goal first time from six yards. Bury believed Marriott made a fine fingertip save as the ball threatened to fly under the crossbar, but the referee gave only a goal-kick. Andrew Tutte had already forced a low save from Marriott before Nardiello doubled Bury's lead after 56 minutes. Standing at the far post, his finish from Mayor's low ball from the right byline hit a post, rolled across the goal and over the line. Eight minutes later Nardiello controlled a long ball downfield and lobbed Marriott superbly from the right of the box to make it 3-0. Sam Clucas gave Mansfield faint hope when he netted off the underside of the bar after Brian Jensen had failed to properly deal with a Colin Daniel cross, palming the ball to him. But just a minute later at the other end, Marriott pushed a Craig Jones cross to Jake Carroll, who drilled high into the top corner from 14 yards.
