Cody McDonald: Grabbed second-half equaliser

Cody McDonald grabbed a second-half equaliser to earn Gillingham a 1-1 draw with Walsall and ensure they won't get relegated.

In the 84th minute a clever overhead flick from substitute Adebayo Akinfenwa teed up McDonald, who fired past Richard O'Donnell for his 16th goal of the season.

Chances were few and far between in the first half, big defender Leon Legge heading over a Jake Hessenthaler in the 32nd minute.

Walsall dominated possession, but it was not until the 45th minute that they managed to threaten the visitors goal. Milan Lalkovic crossed to the far post where Craig Westcarr headed straight at Gills' keeper Stuart Nelson.

The game livened up in the second half and the Saddlers took the lead when Stuart Nelson did well to block a fierce drive from Craig Westcarr but Febian Brandy followed up to drive the rebound home for his fourth goal for the club.

Miklan Lalkovic had a great chance to win it for Walsall in he last minute but fired wide from Westcarr's pass.
