O's rediscover top form

Goals from David Mooney, Dean Cox, Kevin Lisbie and Chris Dagnall secured rampant Leyton Orient a 5-1 win over Gillingham

The Gills were left shell-shocked by two goals in the opening eight minutes and were left totally demoralised after conceding two further goals before the half-time whistle. Two goals by Mooney book-ended a wonderful strike by Cox and an unstoppable header by Lisbie in a stunning display of neat and quick passing from the home side combined with movement from all over the pitch. It took just four minutes for Mooney to unlock the Gillingham defence when he finished off a move by angling his shot past former O's goalkeeper Stuart Nelson. Four minutes later, playmaker Cox crashed home a volley from 22 yards for his 14th goal of the season and the O's stretched their advantage in the 34th minute when Moses Odubajo rounded Joe Martin and crossed for Lisbie to power home from inside the six-yard box. A minute later, Lisbie seized on an error in the Gills defence and raced clear, but unselfishly teed the ball into the path of strike partner Mooney to notch his 20th goal of the campaign. After the break, the visitors packed midfield as they adopted a 4-5-1 formation in a damage limitation exercise, but substitute Dagnall added a fifth after 77 minutes for the hosts when he shrugged of three challenges to steer the ball wide of Nelson. Four minutes later, Fagan netted a late reply for the visitors when he crashed the ball home from close-range after Orient had failed to cut out a cross from the left.
