Paul Thirlwell: Could make return

Team news for Tuesday's League One clash between Carlisle United and Shrewsbury at Brunton Park.

Carlisle boss Graham Kavanagh is hoping several of his senior players can shake off injury in time to give his side a lift against relegation rivals Shrewsbury.

Midfielders Paul Thirlwell (calf) and Liam Noble (ankle), plus defenders Pascal Chimbonda (calf) and Matty Robson (back) all missed the weekend defeat at bottom club Notts County as the Cumbrians dropped into the bottom four.

Centre-half Sean O'Hanlon returned to action on Saturday following a thigh injury, while on-loan pair James Pearson (Leicester) and Reece Brown (Watford) are likely to resume in defence.

Carlisle are chasing their first league win in seven matches and their first at home since February 11.

Shrewsbury manager Mike Jackson could hand a first start to Shaun Miller when they visit Carlisle.

Miller, a weekend loan signing from Sheffield United, made a 20-minute cameo during Saturday's 2-1 win against Bradford and after scoring the winning goal at the death could feature more prominently.

Aaron Wildig also came off the bench during that clash with the Bantams to make his long-awaited return from a knee injury but is likely to play a similar bit-part role as he looks to improve his match fitness.

Luke Summerfield (thigh) and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (hamstring) have both been nursing respective knocks and remain doubtful for the trip to Cumbria.
